Today, I stand before you to honor and celebrate the life of a man who was not only a dedicated soldier but also a loving father. My father was a man of integrity, discipline, and unwavering commitment. He dedicated his life to serving his country, and through that service, he taught me the true meaning of courage, sacrifice, and honor.
As a military man, my father was a person who never backed down from his responsibilities. He faced every challenge with strength and resilience, always with the mission in mind, and never without a deep sense of duty. His life in the service wasn’t just about wearing the uniform; it was about protecting others, ensuring peace, and standing firm in the face of adversity. And though the Nation knew him as a soldier, to me, he was a Mentor, and Caring father, one who guided me, supported me, and showed me the importance of perseverance and respect.
His sense of duty extended beyond the battlefield. At home, he was a pillar of strength, a protector, and a source of wisdom. The lessons he imparted to me are the ones I carry with me every day. He taught me the values of honesty, hard work, and resilience, and his sacrifices never went unnoticed.

Dear Dad,
It feels surreal to be writing this. My heart is heavy, and my mind keeps replaying the memories we shared. The world saw you as a high-profile General, a man of honor and discipline, but to me, you were simply Dad.
I still hear your voice calling me “Mallam,” “Oga Sir,” or “Oh Boy,” always with that unmistakable blend of pride and affection. Those names were more than just nicknames; they were your way of reminding me how much you believed in me, even when I doubted myself.

As I sit to write this tribute, I’m filled with memories of your life and our time together. Your sudden passing has left me in a state of shock and denial.
Your absence has been devastating. I miss you more than words can express, and my heart breaks for my family, who are struggling to come to terms with this immense loss. You were a loving father-in-law, present in our difficult moments and had the best of advice. You worked tirelessly for your loved ones, but death took the chance off you to reap the rewards of your labor.

Few hours to your final moment I asked how you were? you told me you were fine I’m glad those were your last words to me, I know my dad is fine. Funny thing is that I forgot those were your last words until it was time to prepare this, didn’t know how to begin or fight the pain so I went to your room spent time there then I remembered I know you reminded me.
I’m thankful to God for your life and grateful that you’re my father I know no matter the distance you’re still with me, so spread your wings as you go I know when God takes you back he’ll say “hallelujah, you’re home”

This is the true nature of life, but when I heard the News of your passing, I was not only shocked but deeply saddened and devastated.
It is painful missing you, because you were a brother who during your sojourn with us radiated peace and love and was a unifying force within our entire family.
‘Ladele, you were a Pillar, a giver of hope and your good deeds will forever remain indelible in our hearts.
With tears in my eyes, I cannot forget the happy moments we had together growing up during the days of our parents in Minna, and during our school days at the Government College, Bida, in Niger State.
The impact you made in my life is unforgettable, and I cannot forget easily the sweet memories of your years in the Army, you never reneged to demonstrate that unwavering commitment in your benevolence to us.
I recall when you had a health challenge which caused the family and friends psychological trauma, I looked forward prayerfully to the day you would fully recover.
But the Lord knows best, and He decided to call you home to have eternal immeasurable peace.

The evening tide passes, and we can only watch the Sun set over a beautiful life. It is with great sadness that we mourns the passing of a very special Uncle.
Uncle Col. Abraham Oladele Fashona has left us at a time we need him most. Oh death, why have you dealt with us in this manner? Uncle Abraham was so special. We have been struggling to come to terms with his demise.
Our Uncle was sociable and respectful. He was an uncle to us in the true sense of the word. To many he was a father, a guardian, a counsellor, an inspirer, and a mentor. He was also very impactful and meticulous in his dealings with people. He is a kind and loving uncle who had a heart of gold.
He taught us to work hard to achieve anything we put our minds to. our Uncle always supported and emphasized the importance of education. He was likeable and approachable. We have indeed lost a generous and kind uncle.

When the call came in by 6.50 am January 2nd, 2025, that you were losing steam, I assured Funke, that you will make it because you were resilient, but, by 7. 17 am when the second call came in that you have dropped the baton, I requested for a medical confirmation. As a gallant soldier you are not dead but fallen, and surely you will rise again.
Where can one begin to recount those nostalgic brotherly relationship, from Hospital Road to SW 177 Ibo Road during the Civil War and finally, to SW319, Kwangila Road, all in Minna, before you proceeded to Bida for secondary education and adulthood set in. Those days of going to the bush to gather mangoes, share kulikuli, donkwa and guoroji. Or is it the times we trekked to School with Anti Aina the two of you at Saint Peters while I was at Baptist Day Primary school. What can one say about going to the farm with daddy along Baro rail line, visiting him during holiday at Farin Doki, or sharing the same mat.
Dickson, as we fondly called you during your secondary school days. You are a man of courage and resilience which was demonstrated when you had to attempt the NDA, qualifying exams four times before finally God and your sportsmanship saw you through. The memory of how elated you were to break the news and circumstance of your breakthrough kept lingering on my mind.
Can one easily forget the days you came back with laurels won for Niger State?
I cannot remember for once when you lose your temper, the height of your anger is “don’t mind that idiot” or” God punish you”. Even, when Toyin was brutally assassinated, you kept your cool. What a fine humble and gentle spirit. All through the moments of your challenge you took every day as they came, never surrender to the situation until, January 2nd, 2025, when you dropped the baton. Rest and sleep till the resurrection day. Good night.

Soldier man as I used to call you, your sudden departure on the second day of the new year 2025 met me off balance. We received a call that you could no longer digest food, the next ten minutes we had that you had left.
When I saw you unable to walk gallantly as you used to do, as moving from one room to the other took longer time with a great struggle, I rebuked the devil for the pain you went through.
You were a nice man and very considerate, you never carried the world on your head at all. My darling brother, you have been helpful to me and the children. In our times of need , you identified with us and showed us love as it behoves all of you in your family.
I concluded within me that you have gone to rest. You are missed by all. Rest on. in the bossom of your LORD.

When I was asked to write a tribute in your memory, sincerely I did not know what to write and or where to start. You were many things to many people that came across you in life -a soldier, a brother, a friend and an encourager etc. To me, you are a brother and a good friend. You love my family as you love yours. We grew up together in Mopa before you relocated to join your parent in Minna in the then North Western State, now Niger State. As God will have it, we reunited in Katsina after completing. Your course at NDA Kaduna and got posted to 19 Battalion Katsina in the old Kaduna State in 1983. The memory of those old days still remains fresh in me. Through you, I got to know many officers in the military. My brother and my friend, I never knew it will be this soon to say goodnight to you. Rest on till we meet at the feet of Christ Jesus to part no more. You are not dead, you only charge position. My family can never forget you. We love you but God loves you most. One of your greatest assets and attributes was your recognition of people’s diversity, which enhanced your smooth interpersonal relationship with subordinates and superiors alike.
It’s very hard to believe that you’re gone, but I’m comforted that your legacies live on, and you left this world knowing and acknowledging GOD as your personal Saviour.

Uncle Dele, flashing back to the old memory lane, your epitome of love and human relations will continue to linger on in my mind and that of several others that had come across you in your life time. You were just an amazing, an accommodating as well as a fine military officer which I believe same encomium of love would have emanated from your domain of operation even after your retirement. I find it hard to believe when the news of your demise was broken to me, but God knows better why He decided to call you home earlier than my envisaged projection of over a hundred years on mother earth. The bible says, in everything we should give thanks to God. I therefore, hesitate not though with a heavy heart to still say thanks be to God; for He has His reason(s) why He decided to take you home away from us. Death is inevitable for all mortals but my joy and believe is that you have gone to rest in the bosom of the Lord, which is the main thing. Today we gather to celebrate the remarkable life of my beloved Uncle COLONEL OLADELE FASHONA.
To me he was a source of wisdom, love and endless stories that filled my heart with joy. Some of my fondest memories with my UNCLE, was when he told me to go and get my result documents, so that he could secure admission for me at the NDA far back in 2010.
I can never forget his love towards me when I was in school, as he would always call to check on me. I can never ask God for a better Uncle than you, COLONEL OLADELE FASHONA.
As we bid farewell to COLONEL OLADELE FASHONA, let us carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.
Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will continue to bloom in our hearts, reminding us of the beauty and joy of life.
It is hard to say farewell but you will forever be in my heart.

TRIBUTE TO MY BELOVED IN-LAW.
The sad news of the death of my beloved in-law, Col. Abraham Oladele Fashona came to me as a rude shock, disbelief and doubt, but later confirmed by my visit to the family. Col. Abraham Oladele Fashona lived a good life and I believe that God decided to call him now so that he would not be corrupted later. I therefore urge all to take consolation in the world’s and promise of our Lord Jesus Christ Who said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me, even though he dies, will live and whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11:25-26).
I pray that God gives his children, siblings, grand children and relations the fortitude and grace to bear this irreplaceable loss. Be consoled by the good life he led and certainly that death is merely a transition to another life of eternity. May his kind soul find perfect peace in the bosom of the Lord, Amen.

TRIBUTE TO LATE LT COL PETER FASHIONA ABRAHAM (RTD).
The sad news of the passing on to eternal glory of our dear amiable, lanky, charismatic and ever committed member of NDA 28 Regular Course Welfare Association (28 RCWA), Lt Col PF Abraham was painful and unexpected at a time like this. In the last few years that he has struggled with the ailment, our Association worked closely with the family where possible to assist in finding solution to his predicament. Unfortunately, the end came and because we are humans and subject to the Will and Grace of the Almighty God, we have no other choice but to stand with the family and friends to sorrow and be thankful to God for a life eventfully and gallantly lived as a fearless Army Officer. Peter was gentle, social, friendly, dedicated to service of our Nation and a very committed member of our Association from inception. Until he became incapacitated by illness, he participated in almost every function of the Association and contributed immensely in uplifting the ideals and objectives of our Association. We members of the 28 RCWA have lost a spectacular mate and will forever miss him. May the Almighty God who knows it all and does His Will take all the Glory and accept his soul at His Bosom. I received with rude shock on the early hours of the 2nd day of the new year 2025 of your passing onto Glory without saying goodbye.
Uncle Abraham as I fondly called you was a kind gentle soul, a dependable senior egbon (Brother),a steadfast cousin, an intelligent indefatigable officer of the Nigerian army who served his fatherland meritoriously and distinctively, a devout Father to his wonderful children and family. You had an unwavering spirit and unfaltering Love for his family, colleagues and friends. His generous nature (a cheerful giver) and humble heart shone through in everything he did. His willingness to reach out a helping hand to others even in his most difficult times was a true testament to his character.
As I say, my final goodbye I will be encouraged to reflect on your legacy which you left behind, support to face my academic work and your warm charming smiles.
You remain a pride to us even after your departure from this sinful world.
May God grant your soul a peaceful eternal rest with the Lord, until we meet to part no more at the feet of Master Jesus at the Resurrection morning. Amen 🙏

Tribute to my uncle Ladele
The news of your demise came as a shock. You were such a wonderful uncle full of life. You loved your family and your sense of humour cannot be overlooked. I remember those days I used to come check you at Ikeja cantonment, I felt like a king anytime you tell them to bring me in. We love you but God loves you more. You have gone to rest. See you at the resurrection morning. You will surely be missed.

It is with deepest sorrow and sadness that I write this Tribute. My Dearest Uncle, Oladele, a born soldier to the core.
I remember like yesterday how you always welcome me and make me happy during summer vacation from Ahmadu Bello University, I was always stopping over to spend some few days with you in Minna Niger State before I proceed to Ilorin. You always wait patiently at the railway station waiting for the arrival of my train from Zaria, so as to pick me up. It’s what I was always doing throughout my 4 years course at ABU with, and you never for once complained, instead you go all the way to make my stay memorable.
Your sudden death came as a rude shock, I did not expect it and wish we had more time to continue to appreciate you, but God in His infinite wisdom knows the best.
Brother Oladele, a great soldier, a million words cannot bring you back and neither can a million tears. You have left your footprint with glory on the sand of time. Your name and the good work will be remembered for a long time. Your death is the longest parting there ever will be between us, but I will not shed tears again because you have gone to a better place to rest, and I am sure we will meet again on the day of resurrection.
May our Lord Jesus Christ comfort and sustain your family, your wife and children now and always. Rest in perfect peace till resurrection day.

Ladele as we foundly call him, saw ourselves growing up to be adults in Minna. Never saw him angry from adolescence to when we found ourselves serving in the Nigerian Army.
When provoked he would respond ” Don’t mind him or No min nam in broken English.*
This GOD given gift transformed him to near perfect gentleman, humble, with a high degree of patience and high ability of tolerance with all persons he came across. I’m yet to meet a person of his type. ADEIU Ladele, continue to rest in peace.
